Fudo Myoo Katana — 1045 Carbon Steel, Hand Forged, Full Tang, Battle Ready

SKU: 322

$309.99 $406.99

This Fudo Myoo Katana is dedicated to Fudo Myoo, the Immovable One — the fierce Buddhist deity of fire and resolve, patron of those who face adversity with unwavering spirit. The scabbard makes the sword's dedication to Fudo Myoo unmistakable: deeply lacquered crimson red wood — the color of the deity's surrounding flames — with a precisely carved black collar ring at the koiguchi that breaks the red with uncompromising darkness, exactly as Fudo Myoo himself stands unmoved at the boundary between fire and shadow. Hand-forged from 1045 high carbon steel, heat tempered and fully inspected before leaving our California warehouse. A capable, durable katana for collectors and practitioners who want proven steel without overcomplication.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is 1045 steel good enough for a functional sword?
1045 is a reliable entry-to-mid grade carbon steel — heat tempered to 52–54 HRC, it holds a serviceable edge for tatami and light bamboo cutting. It is the most forgiving steel in our line: easier to sharpen, more tolerant of lateral stress, and ideal for beginners. If you plan to cut seriously and regularly, we also carry 1060 and 1095 grades in most designs.
Is the blade sharp and ready for cutting practice?
Yes. Hand sharpened by whetstone before shipping — sharp enough for tatami mat and fresh bamboo cutting straight out of the box. No additional preparation needed.
What does the Fudo Myoo design look like?
The tsuba features kami motif tsuba. It is cast iron with a dark patina — the weight and texture of real iron, not a lightweight alloy substitute. The guard is a fixed part of the assembled sword and cannot be swapped.
How do I maintain the blade?
Wipe dry after handling or use. Apply a light coat of choji or mineral oil along the full blade length before storing. Carbon steel will develop surface rust if left wet or unprotected — a minute of care after each session keeps the blade in condition indefinitely.
What makes the scabbard (saya) on this sword special?
The saya on this sword is built around a deliberate two-tone contrast that reflects the nature of Fudo Myoo (不動明王) himself. The main body is deeply lacquered in vivid crimson red — the color of the deity's surrounding fire, which consumes impurity and protects those who carry pure resolve. At the koiguchi (the mouth of the scabbard), a precisely carved black collar ring interrupts the red in a hard, clean transition — black representing the immovable, the absolute, the unyielding darkness at the center of the flame. This is not decorative contrast for its own sake: in the iconography of Fudo Myoo, fire and darkness are not opposites but partners, both serving the same protective purpose. Every time this sword is drawn or sheathed, that visual language plays out at the moment of contact.
How do I know the quality is genuine?
Every sword is individually inspected and adjusted before leaving our California warehouse. We check edge geometry, fitment of all components, and the security of the mekugi pegs before packing. If anything is not right, it does not ship.
