Wipe dry after handling or use. Apply a light coat of choji or mineral oil along the full blade length before storing. Carbon steel will develop surface rust if left wet or unprotected — a minute of care after each session keeps the blade in condition indefinitely.

The saya on this katana uses deep blue piano lacquer with a matching blue and black sageo — a deliberate color coordination that extends the blue aesthetic across every element of the scabbard. Where most swords use black sageo regardless of saya color, the blue sageo here unifies the whole assembly. Blue is among the rarest colors used in traditional katana lacquerwork, and the matching cord makes the choice even more deliberate: this is a sword assembled around a color concept rather than assembled from standard parts.
