Wipe dry after handling or use. Apply a light coat of choji or mineral oil along the full blade length before storing. Carbon steel will develop surface rust if left wet or unprotected — a minute of care after each session keeps the blade in condition indefinitely.

This saya combines three premium natural materials rarely found together on a production katana. The base is black piano lacquered wood. Both the mouth (koiguchi) and tip (kojiri) are fitted with genuine water buffalo horn — dense, naturally lustrous, and resistant to cracking. Most distinctively, genuine sharkskin (same — 鮫皮) is wrapped at the koiguchi, the point where the blade enters and exits the scabbard. This is the same textured material used on traditional katana handles, applied here to the saya's most critical contact point for natural grip and tactile quality that rewards close inspection.

Every sword is individually inspected and adjusted before leaving our California warehouse. We check edge geometry, fitment of all components, and the security of the mekugi pegs before packing. If anything is not right, it does not ship.
