Wipe dry after handling or use. Apply a light coat of choji or mineral oil along the full blade length before storing. Carbon steel will develop surface rust if left wet or unprotected — a minute of care after each session keeps the blade in condition indefinitely.

This saya combines three premium natural materials. The base is black piano lacquered wood. Both the mouth (koiguchi) and tip (kojiri) are fitted with genuine water buffalo horn. Most distinctively, red-dyed genuine sharkskin (same — 鮫皮) is wrapped at the koiguchi — a rare chromatic accent that adds visual contrast against the black lacquer while providing the same natural grip quality as the material used on traditional katana handles.
