Musashi Katana — 1095 High Carbon Steel, Clay Tempered, Hand Forged, Full Tang, Battle Ready

SKU: 681

$608.99 $648.99

This Musashi Katana is inspired by Miyamoto Musashi, Japan's greatest swordsman and author of The Book of Five Rings — carrying the philosophy that mastery of the blade begins with mastery of the self. Hand-forged from 1095 high carbon steel, clay tempered using the traditional tsuchioki technique. The differential hardening creates a hard cutting edge and a tough, resilient spine — with a real hamon formed by the heat itself, not by polishing. Individually inspected before leaving our California warehouse.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What makes 1095 clay tempered steel special?
1095 has the highest carbon content in our line (~0.95%), and the clay tempering process creates differential hardness across the blade — a harder edge zone (60–62 HRC) with a tougher, more flexible spine. This is the same foundational technique used in traditional Japanese swordmaking. The process also creates a visible real hamon along the edge. If you want a functional blade that reflects authentic construction, this is it.
Is the blade sharp and ready for cutting practice?
Yes. Hand sharpened by whetstone before shipping — sharp enough for tatami mat and fresh bamboo cutting straight out of the box. No additional preparation needed.
What does the Musashi design look like?
The tsuba features musashi tsuba. It is cast iron with a dark patina — the weight and texture of real iron, not a lightweight alloy substitute. The guard is a fixed part of the assembled sword and cannot be swapped.
How do I maintain the blade?
Wipe dry after handling or use. Apply a light coat of choji or mineral oil along the full blade length before storing. Carbon steel will develop surface rust if left wet or unprotected — a minute of care after each session keeps the blade in condition indefinitely.
How do I know the quality is genuine?
Every sword is individually inspected and adjusted before leaving our California warehouse. We check edge geometry, fitment of all components, and the security of the mekugi pegs before packing. If anything is not right, it does not ship.
