1045 carbon steel is the confirmed steel grade and keeps the page comparable with standard themed Katana listings.

Wipe dry after handling or use. Apply a light coat of choji or mineral oil along the full blade length before storing. Carbon steel will develop surface rust if left wet or unprotected — a minute of care after each session keeps the blade in condition indefinitely.

The saya on this katana is painted with Raijin (雷神) — the Shinto god of thunder, lightning, and storms — on matte black wood. Raijin is one of the most visually striking figures in Japanese mythology: depicted with a fierce expression, surrounded by a ring of drums he strikes to create thunder, he represents raw elemental power that operates beyond human control. On a sword scabbard, invoking Raijin is a deliberate statement — this is a blade associated with sudden, unstoppable force. The matte black finish (rather than the high-gloss piano lacquer used on most saya) reinforces this aesthetic: no shine, no decoration for its own sake, just the god of storms and the sword beneath him. The brown sageo completes a palette that reads as dark earth and storm cloud rather than martial formality.
