Samurai Swords
At Handmade Sword, we specialize in high-quality Samurai Swords that honor traditional Japanese forging techniques. From clay-tempered Katana to functional Wakizashi and Tanto, our swords are designed for both performance and aesthetic beauty.
Three main blade types for collectors and practitioners:
- Katana — full-length curved sword (~28-30" blade), the iconic Japanese samurai sword
- Wakizashi — short companion sword (~18-22" blade), traditionally paired with the katana as part of the daisho
- Tanto — dagger length (~10-15" blade), historically a defensive weapon and now a collectible piece
Steel grades matched to use case:
- 1045 carbon steel — entry-level, durable for practice and decorative use
- 1060 / 1080 high carbon steel — mid-range, suitable for cutting practice
- 1095 high carbon steel, often clay-tempered — premium grade with traditional differential hardening that creates a visible hamon line
- Damascus / folded steel — patterned blades, layered hundreds to thousands of times
All swords are hand forged, full tang, and battle ready unless explicitly marked as iaito (training swords with unsharpened blades). Each sword is individually inspected at our California warehouse before shipping. Tsuba themes range from traditional dragon, crane, bamboo, and tomoe crest to film-inspired designs.
